Velvet appears to be rayon or similar, it is sturdier than silk velvet

A fabulous study in 1920s dress design- the silk under dress is intact. It closes in similar style to Edwardian dresses with snaps across the waistline to secure the skirt and hook & closures down the front of the inner bodice.
